We are all thrilled that tax day is long over. About four days prior, during, and a couple days after, we had a massive run on requests for tax publications. Nothing remarkable in that - procrastination is a common problem.
Worst request from tax day...
Patron - "I'd like to come in today to have you do my taxes."
Librarian - "Umm, we don't do taxes, if you mean the AARP volunteers they do not meet in the library. They have several locations and times where they meet, but none for Wednesday per their printed schedule. I suppose you could go over to the closest site and see if they are there anyway since it is tax day."
Patron - "Oh." "But you don't do taxes?"
Librarian - "No, the library staff do not 'do' peoples' taxes for them. We have the forms and booklets and you are welcome to pick up what you need. We are not allowed to provide tax advice."
Patron - "Isn't there anyone at the library who can do taxes."
Librarian - "No." "I can read you the AARP schedule. Although it doesn't say when they stop doing them and there is no number to call." (Which is probably smart on the AARP volunteers part or they'd have no peace!) "We do have extension forms if you need more time to find help."
When told about the encounter another librarian said it best. "These people are just full of dumb shit."
